When I got to the beach around 11am, Derek and Richard were sat in their car watching Simon who was sailing OK until he got trashed by a big wave which ripped his sail to shreds. It took him a while to swim back in and he drifted quite a way downwind in the strong currents, so we all got drenched helping him carry his kit back along the beach.

Steve then arrived and Derek, Richard and Simon went off for a while. We sat there waiting for the tide to drop a little and the rain to ease before rigging. The Draycote guys then arrived (Mark, John and another guy), but they didn't go out straight away either.

In the end Steve and I rigged up and got out there. The conditions were mad, big winds and whitewater as far as you could see. I was nicely powered up with my 4.5m although at one point I did have problems getting going. To start with I didn't go out too far and just played around jumping off the smaller waves and whitewater closer to the beach. Steve was getting on OK too, but not really landing his jumps cleanly as far as I could see.

The wind picked up a little so I decided to try heading out further to sea. I made it over some huge walls of whitewater, negotiating the mad conditions well. A big steep wave then jacked up in front of me and I knew if I hit it at the speed I was going I would jump far too high for my liking, so instead I banked around into a lovely gybe right on the face of the wave just under the lip as it was breaking. I came flying out of the gybe and had a crazy run back to shore on the limit of control.

I then had a few more good runs with decent jumps and made my way out through the big waves a few times. Mark and the other guy from Draycote came out and joined us, but both seemed to end up miles downwind and had to walk back up the beach. Steve then managed to tear his sail and so packed up.

Derek went out kitesurfing and was going really well, with some nice one-handed jumps and some inverted jumps. He seemed to be having a great time out there.

I then went back out for a bit and Richard came out too. I didn't do so well this time, so after a few runs and some wipeouts I decided to call it a day before I broke something. I'm not sure if anyone else went back out, or if John ever got in the water, but for me it was a good session, but not great as the challenging conditions were just a little too mad for me to REALLY enjoy it.

I did stop at the Lifeboat Station on the way home, and we should have sailed from there. There was plenty of wind and the waves were nicely spaced, much cleaner and although somewere still fairly big there just was nowehere near the amount of whitewater as further up the beach... I knew we should have sailed from the Lifeboat Station.
